Mileage reimbursement
Updated
Bystevengfowler
Independent contractors can write off their mileage with the IRS. So, if a cleaner drives 20 miles to an appointment one way, they’ll be able to write off 40 miles for the trip. The current reimbursement rate is 62.5 cents per mile. So, the cleaner can write off $25 from just that appointment. If they get paid $75, then it’s as if they only made $50. If, however, your mileage is reimbursed, it will actually drive their income higher, making them liable for more taxes.
